James Calvin “Cal” Brooks, 82, of Belding passed away Friday morning, December 
22, 2006 at Spectrum Health United Memorial United Campus in Greenville.  Cal 
was born on October 13, 1924 in Belding, the son of Clarence A. and Girtha Mae 
Sower Brooks.  

He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army.  Cal was a member of the 
Belding-Ionia Masonic Lodge No. 335 F&AM, the Belding VFW and attended Shiloh 
Community Church.  He was also past Mason of the Year.  

Cal was married on March 30, 1946 in Lakeview to Ruth Avis Barger and she 
survives along with their children; Donald C. Brooks of Grand Rapids and Jean 
A. and Craig Dawson of St. Cloud, Florida.  He is also survived by 6 
grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and his brothers and sisters in law; Art 
and Jackie Brooks of Orleans and Lewis and Shirley Brooks of Belding.  He was 
preceded by his parents.  

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday December 26, 2006 at Shiloh 
Community Church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating.  Private interment will 
follow in Greene Cemetery, Belding.  Visitation will be one hour before the 
service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be given to Shiloh 
Community Church, the Belding-Ionia Masonic Lodge.  Care and services were 
entrusted to Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.
