L. Brown, aged 84, a well known and highly esteemed citizen of this village, passed away at the home of his son, L.E. Brown on the west side, Tuesday night, from ailments incident to old age. Burial will take place at Belding, Saturday, in the Green cemetery. Mr. Brown was born at Hartford Mills, New York, March 25, 1840, and came to Michigan in 1870, settling in Portland with his family where he lived a greater part of his life, living at Belding at the time of his wife’s death which occurred twenty-six years ago. While in Portland, in his early days, he practiced the trade of carpenter and bridge building, and at one time was connected with the late S. S. Ramsey in that kind of work. There are only three children that survive, Mrs. Cora Raby, of Lansing, Mrs. Lula Rowley, of Halfway, Mich., and L. E. Brown, of Portland, also one sister, Mrs. Ella Parks, who lives in the west.
