Brown died at his home on West Lincoln Avenue at 7:30 Sunday morning, January 17. He had been in poor health for the past three years and critically ill for about a month. Mr. Brown was born in Watertown, New York, February 27, 1863, and would have been 74 years old next month. When he was about nine years old his parents came to Michigan and located at Maple Corners. He later went to Lyons where he lived for 40 years, part of this time being employed in the Hale Mills. Eighteen years ago he came to Ionia. For 13 years he was a guard at Michigan Reformatory. He was married to Miss Almina Chase in September, 1895, and they were the parents of two daughters, Miss Nellie Brown and Mrs. Mildred Goward, and a son, Prescott, all of Ionia. Mrs. Brown died in 1923. Rev. George Woolcock conducted the funeral which was held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 from the home. Burial was in Lyons cemetery.
