She was a member of SUMC, UMW, V.F.W. Women Auxiliary in Portland, and a past 4-H leader. Maxine was an avid baseball fan who loved the Tigers. She also loved her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. Her favorite hobbies were knitting, crocheting, and sewing, also she loved baking, word puzzles and gardening. Preceding her in death were her parents, Burr and Hazel (Catlin) Duffey; two brothers, Bernard and Burwell (Stub” Duffey; nephew, Jerry Duffey; and great- grandson, Travis Hoort. Surviving are her husband, Walter M. Brown, married 63 years, and 5 children, Larry (Nancy) Brown of Sunfield, Lynn (Mary) Brown of Tenn., Don Brown of Colorado, Marge (Wade) Hampton of Missouri, Carole (Mike) Beard of Portland, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren, sister in law, Betty Duffey of Sunfield, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Feb. 4 at the Sunfield United Methodist Church. Interment followed at the Danby Cemetery. The family is being served by the Independent Family Owned Funeral Home in Sunfield: Rosier Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, or SUMC.
