Brown, one of the old citizens of this city, died Friday at his room in the Bricker block, aged 70 years. The deceased came to Belding about twenty years ago and pursued the occupation of a carpenter. Two or three years ago he met with an accident while at carpenter work, which laid him up for some time, and since then has been in poor health. Recently he was taken with an attack of the grip, being sick only a few days. Mr. Brown enlisted in the Civil war in 1862, was a member of Co. H, 5th Mich. Cavalry and served four years. While in the service he was injured by his horse jumping against him. He was born in Oakland, Macomb county, Mich. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W.W. Case of this city, and Ira Brown of Fenton, also one brother, Ezekiel Brown. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Baptist church. Rev. C.E.. Maxfield preached an excellent sermon and Soldier Veterans W.R. Olds, John Sayles, O.A. Day, John W. Cooper, Al Weaver and J.D. Morse as bearers laid his remains to rest in the River Ridge cemetery.
