The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, December 21, 1898

The familiar figure of James M. Brown will be seen no more on the streets of 
Ionia, which he was wont to tread, lo, these many years.  The kindly old man 
passed away last night, after a brief and comparatively painless illness, at 
the ripe age of 93 years and 12 days.  He died at the home of his daughter, 
Mrs. John Morton, West Washington street.  The funeral will be from the Church 
of Christ, on Friday morning at 10 o’clock, the pastor, Rev. G. K. Berry, 
officiating.  Interment in the Easton cemetery.
