He was born on January 30, 1920 in Ionia the son of Charles and Evangelia (Smith) Brown. Mr. Brown owned and operated Brown Cycle Sales in Ionia for many years and had a passion and artistry for restoring antique farm machinery. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army Aircorps, a member of First United Methodist Church of Ionia, and a lifetime member of the Ionia Masonic Lodge. He married Harriett Baker on July 30, 1941 and she preceded him in death in 2006. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Edward Brown. Surviving are his daughter Deborah (Thomas) Phillips; granddaughter, Allison (Angel) Castillo, Pat Bessone, Amy Bessone, Tom Houseago, Jon Bessone and Rumi Takeda; brother, Robert Brown and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia with Rev. Larry Brown officiating. The interment will take place at Tuttle Cemetery, Ionia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11-1 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Ionia County Memorial Hospital or the First United Methodist Church of Ionia in memory of Mr. Elwin Brown.
