Brown passed away at his home on March 20, 2011 after a long lengthy heart condition, with his loving wife of 59 years, by his side. He was 80 years old, born June 5, 1930. They were married Sept. 15, 1951. He was the son of Frank and Laura Brown. He attended Harbor Springs High School where he graduated in 1949. After graduation he moved to Flint to attend General Motors Institute and graduated in 1955. Wayne was an avid hunter and fisherman. Very seldom did he miss a deer. He loved gardening, taking his produce to the farmers market as well as selling produce from his home. Wayne had many hobbies of making maple syrup, wine and honey. He also made stoned bird houses, which he was awarded 1st place along with the Top Diamond Award of the Ionia Free Fair and Adult Gold ribbon for the State Fair. In 1951, he joined the air Force serving as a hydrologic mechanic with the squadron. He was also in the Air Force Reserve and discharged at the rank of Staff Sgt. He was very proud of being a veteran and was a member of the VFW Post 2051 in Petoskey. He was a member of the Moose Lodge while living in Ionia and president of the Ionia Little League for several years. Surviving him are his wife, Marcia; children, Denise (Ben) Morrow of Ionia, son Stephen (Betty) of Tarrs, Pa., and his daughter Karen (Dick) Kavanagh of Hubbardston; and three great grandchildren. Wayne loved his family who will greatly miss him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Laura Brown; brothers, Elmer, Marion and Billy; sisters, Agnes, Lydia, grace and Mabel. Also preceding him in death was a grandson, Stephen W. Brown II. Memorial Service will take place at the Stutsmanville Chapel in Harbor Springs with Ed Warner officiating. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 29. Interment and graveside service will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens Chapel in Ionia on Saturday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Cliff Allen officiating. Wayne was the owner of the cemetery prior to moving to Petoskey in 1986.
