He did not desert his wife six months ago. Over six years ago Mrs. Stahlin took their infant son and left the home of his parents where they were staying while he was away at work. Since then they have not lived together. During this time they were divorced and more than a year ago he was married to a very estimable young lady of Belding. Before going west Mr. Stahlin called at the home of his little son and wished to take and care for him, this was denied him. Mr. Staley is a man highly respected in Belding. The following was printed in last week’s issue of an Ionia paper: Died on a Couch Mrs. Esther Brown Who Came Here Monday from Belding. Mrs. Esther Brown, a woman 66 years of age died at 12 o’clock last night of heart failure after an illness of one hour. Mrs. Brown, her daughter Mrs. Gertie Stahlin and two little children came here from Belding and moved into the upright of the first house south of the waterworks on Jackson St. Mrs. Stahlin who says she was deserted by her husband six months ago came here to find work and the grandmother to take care of the babies. They are in destitute circumstances, were sleeping on the floor down stairs. The woman died upon the couch. Dr. Logan was called and pronounced it a case of heart trouble probably aggravated by the effort of moving here and getting settled. Supervisor Covert has the matter in charge for the city. The funeral will be held Saturday and burial probably in Highland Park cemetery. Mrs. Brown has no relatives here but she has a brother in Belding and another in Eaton Co. The husband of Mrs. Stahlin is said to be in Kansas.
