Brown, who had instituted a search of the farm buildings and grounds when it became known his wife was missing. the woman had been suffering from dementia induced by protracted illness. She was 69 years of age. Quietly and while other members of the household were unaware of her intentions she had stolen away and ended her life by plunging into the cavern, located in an out-of-the way spot beneath the kitchen, in the bottom of which there was water about five feet in depth. The cistern had not been in use for several years. Desirous of conveying information of her mother's death to Mrs. Grace Baldwin, whose whereabouts were unknown do to her husband's occupation calling them into various parts of the continent. Mrs. Brown, appealed to Sheriff William Franch to broadcast the fact over the state radio at East Lansing. About the same time a telegram was received from Mrs. Baldwin from Springfield, Missouri, where she presumably had received letters telling her of her mother's mental condition. The telegram enquired as to the condition of Mr. Brown's health. She and her husband Warner W. Baldwin had but recently returned from spending the winter in Cuba. Coroner B. J. Boynton and Sheriff Franch decided an inquest was unwarranted upon investigating circumstances leading up to Mrs. Brown's death. With her husband, Mrs. Brown had lived on the farm since their marriage 45 years ago. She was born in Canada, but had lived in Ionia county since three years of age. Her early life was spent on her parents' farm in Keene township north of Potter's corners, where she lived until wed to Mr. Brown. With her husband Mrs. Brown ter.
