The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, date unknown
George Leighton Brown, aged 82, passed away December 20, 2003 in Ionia. He was 
born April 11, 1921 the son of Walter and Mary (Snyder) Brown. He married 
Gaylia Brown October 29, 1947.

He enlisted in the Marines on April 14th 1942 and was a WWII Marine Veteran 
serving in the South Pacific. George served in the Civilian Conservation 
Corp., was a Life member of the VFW in Sheridan and a Charter member of Ionia 
Historical Society. He was a Barber and Cosmetologist then went on to work for 
Dept. of Corrections.

He is survived by his wife of fifty six years Gaylia Brown of Ionia; sister 
Bernadine Stalter of Ionia; nephews Mick and Jill VanDeVelde of Lake Odessa, 
Mont and Joy Baum of Lake Odessa and Dr. Richard and Marilyn Brown of Spring 
Lake.

Cremation has taken place at his request. Services will be held in the Spring. 
Anyone wishing may make a memorial contribution to Ionia Area Hospice or Ionia 
Historical Society. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
