Her childhood and girlhood was spent near the place of her birth, and there she received her education in the district schools, and by home study with the assistance of a sister who was a teacher. In 1872 she was married to Joseph C. Brown, and there began the life and occupation which was to last for forty- four years. For eleven years they rented a farm in Monroe County, New York, and in the early spring of 1884 they moved to Michigan. Later in the same year they bought a farm in Ionia township near the north line of Orange. Here, the remaining thirty-two years of her life were spent. In May 1915 she suffered the loss of her husband and from then on she had not been well. In November of last year she was taken with pneumonia and for a few days her life was despaired of. However, she recovered, but the ordeal put too heavy a strain on her already weakened heart, and in February she grew gradually worse until she was no longer able to get out of her chair. Death came quietly Thursday morning, March 9th, just ten months to a day later than the death of her husband. Death was due to heart disease. She was the mother of ten children of whom five died in early childhood. Those surviving are: Mrs. Bert Setchfield, Flat Creek, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. A. G. Krieble, of Lyons; James A. of Delta, Michigan; Edward H. of Lyons and Chas. F. of Ionia township. She is also survived by a brother, Frank J. Heustis, and a sister, Emily Heustis of Lima, New York, a nephew, W. J. Cavendar, also of Lima; and a niece, Emma Wiard, Rochester, New York; an aunt, Theresa Kelsey, Ann Arbor, Michigan and three cousins, Arthur P. Loomis of Ionia, Mrs. Edw. Pennell and Miss Ada Kelsey, both of Ann Arbor. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, March 12, with A. E. Bradt of Lyons in charge. Rev. Geo. A. Brown, pastor of the Lyons M. E. church gave the funeral address and had charge of the ceremony. The singing was tenderly rendered by Mrs. Bradt. Flowers were received from The Delta Center Ladies’ Aid society, The Thimble club of the neighborhood, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rochlitz of Portland, and from the friends and neighbors of the deceased. The remains were laid to rest in Tuttle cemetery. Card of Thanks: We wish to thank the friends and neighbors for the slowers and many acts of kindness and help to us during our late bereavement.
