The Ionia Standard, Thursday, December 16, 1880
General Brown, who has just died at Tecumseh, Michigan, age the age of 87 
years, was well known to the pioneers of this county.  He came to this place 
in 1836 and was appointed register of the land office.  He remained here 
several years, removing in 1839.  He was a democrat and voted for Hancock, 
although he had to be carried to the polls.
