The Ionia Standard, Friday, March 17, 1905
“Uncle Timothy” Brown, for full a half century, a resident of Ionia, passed 
from this early scene of action this morning at 9 o’clock, at the age of 86 
years (to the beset of his reckoning).  Though he spent many days with his 
shovel in the employ of the corporation, he was a talented and in may respects 
a unique character.  Education for the Catholic priesthood, he became a great 
reader, and was regarded by the many who knew him as a philosopher who 
searched deeply for the reason and nature of things.  He was born in Ireland.
