She was born on October 25, 1916 in Orange Township, the daughter of George and Hattie (Crane) Baker. Mrs. Brown was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ionia, as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Harriett married Elwin Brown on July 30, 1941. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Edith Harwood, Irene Udell and Esther Bigger; brothers, Clare Baker and Clyde Baker. Harriett leaves behind many loved ones; her husband Elwin, daughter Deborah and son-in-law Thomas Phillips, granddaughter Allison Phillips, Pat Bessone, Amy Bessone and Tom Houseago, Jon Bessone and Rumi Takeda, special niece Helen Mitchell, and many other nieces and nephews. Her family will receive friends at her residence, 326 E. Washington Street, Ionia, Friday, February 3, 2006 from noon until 2:30 p.m. There will be a Family Prayer Service at 3 p.m. at the residence, led by the Rev. Martin Culver, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Ionia. Interment will be at Tuttle Cemetery, Ionia. Complete arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Ionia. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to Ionia County Memorial Hospital, in memory of Mrs. Brown.
