The Ionia County News, Thursday, May 18, 1939


Mrs. Eugene O. Brown, 79, died at the Ionia city hospital Thursday evening, 
May 11, at 8 o’clock where she was taken a week earlier for treatment.

Celia L. Gaylord was born October 4, 1859, at Cuyahoga Falls, O., the daughter 
of Mr. and Mrs. George Gaylord. She was about 19 years of age when she came to 
Michigan.  March 25, 1880 she was married to Amos D. Hyde.  They lived on a 
farm east of Palo until Mr. Hyde died in 1926.  On January 18, 1928, she was 
married to E. O. Brown of Ionia.  Mrs. Brown was a member of the Palo Baptist 
church, O.E.S. chapter of Palo and the Palo Rebekahs.

Surviving besides the husband, E. O. Brown, are a sister, Mrs. Katie 
Clevering, of Akron O., two nieces, Mrs. L. J. Fitzgerald and Mrs. Elroy 
Dietrich, of Palo.

Funeral services were held at two o’clock Sunday afternoon, May 14, from the 
Palo Baptist church.  Rev. Peter Bissett of Lyons officiated and burial was at 
Palo.
