In the year of 1856 he graduated from the Harvard Medical College at Cambridge, and on May 22 of the same year, in the city of Boston, was married to Mary Helen Whitney, and began the practice of his profession in the office of his father, Dr. Artemus Browne, at Medway. In 1861 the deceased enlisted as private in the 16th Mass. Inf. In 1862 he acted as Ass’t. Surgeon in the 31st, Mass. Inf. In 1863 he was promoted to Surgeon in the 76th U.S.C.Y., in which capacity he served until the close of the war. In 1871 he moved to Michigan, locating first at Matherton, from which place he removed to Hubbardston, where he has since resided, practicing his profession with the exception of the years of 1889 and ’90 when he served as representative in the Michigan legislature. His last illness caused by heart disease was of four weeks duration terminating fatally at 6:30 p.m. on November 8, 1910, making his age 78 years, eleven months and eight days. Services were held at his late home, conducted by Rev. Tomas G. R. Brownlow, of Carson City, Friday, October 11, at 2:00 p.m. Additional Comments: Transcriber’s note: All dates concerning the death are in November 1910, however, the obituary says the funeral service was held on October 11th.
