Browning, 96, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Merle Kelly of rural Portland. Mr. Browning spent most of his life in the Portland area where he operated a farm for many years. He specialized in raising poultry and exhibited at state and national poultry shows. For a number of years he opened his home as a summer hotel. Mr. Browning was born in Illinois January 6, 1865, and came to the Portland area early in life. He had been a member of the Portland Baptist church 72 years. On his 96th birthday Mr. Browning received a greeting care from President Eisenhower. Surviving are his wife, Rose; three daughters, Mrs. Harriet Kelly of Portland; principal of Ionia junior high school, Mrs. Elizabeth Simmons and Mrs. Florence Dunham of East Lansing; a son, Clarence O. Browning of Grand Ledge, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Funeral service will be at Neller funeral home Friday at 1:30 .m. with Rev. Robert Treat officiating. Interment will be in at Portland cemetery.
