Owing to the death of her mother when she was seventeen months old, she lived with her grandparents until the age of twenty when she went to make a home for her father on a farm in Grundy county, near Seneca, Illinois. On February 11, 1864 she was united in marriage to Orlando C. Browning, at the home of her uncle in Seneca, Illinois. They resided on the farm with her father for six years when, in 1870, they came to Portland and had resided here almost continuously since. To this union two children were born, who with husband survive. She was of a quiet and retiring disposition and devoted to her husband and family and had been a consistent member of the Baptist church for more than fifty years. The funeral was held Monday from the home to the Baptist church, in charge of Rev. John A. Stewart, assisted by Rev. H. P. Hoskins. Interment was made in Portland cemetery.
