Sept. 20, 1894 Dropped Dead on Main Street Alexander Bryant, colored, dropped dead Thursday on Main street, between 7 and 8 o'clock. He was walking along the street with his wife and when they were in front of Young's hardware store he gave a gasp and fell to the sidewalk dead. He was carried to his home, corner of Washington and Second streets, where the remains were cared for by Mr. Allured. The funeral was held from the residence Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment in Highland Park cemetery. He had been ailing for the past year and was 49 years of age. He leaves a wife. The Bryant Inquest Coroner Williams after hearing the detail of circumstances attending the death of Alexander Bryant, although a jury had been sworn, has decided that it was not necessary to continue the case, and therefore would say that no further action will be had in the matter of inquest. No censure rest upon anyone for notifying the coroner and arranging for a jury. Much has been said about needless expense made by Mr. Williams in inquests, but those who watch the business in cities know it is very seldom that coroners omit holding one when notified, but there has been a number of cases in the last six years where our present coroner has decided it not necessary. There are cases where it cannot be neglected without violation of positive law.
