Buchanan, 68, of Lyons, died Friday morning at 1:30 at Butterworth Hospital. She had been ill for about three weeks. She was born July 12, 1885, near Crystal, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Narragan. The family moved to Lyons when she was very young and she attended school there and was graduated from the high school. She taught in Ionia county rural schools for two years. In 1906 she was married to Earnest W. Buchanan and they were publishers of the Lyons herald which she continued until that year following his death in 1940. November 19, 1941, she was married to George D. Buchanan of Royal Oak at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey E. Kidder in Ionia and they lived in Royal Oak until 1943 when they returned to Lyons where they operated the Hatch and Baker hardware. Surviving besides her husband, George, are one stepdaughter, Mrs. Kenneth Painter of Birmingham and two stepsons, Edward of Birmingham and George J. of Royal Oak. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Shaw-Rivett funeral home in Muir with the Rev. Fr. Roger J. Bunday of St. John’s Episcopal church of Ionia officiating. Burial will be at Lyons cemetery.
