Buck, 95, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014. He was born on September 27, 1918 in Harpersfield, NY the son of Howard and Mabel (Cornell) Buck. George married the former Claire Ackart on December 25, 1939 in New York, and she preceded him in death on October 25, 2001. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ionia, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, making maple syrup, photography, and woodworking. George graduated from Cornell University, and spent most of his life as an educator of primary grades through college in both New York State and Michigan. He served his country in the Air Force during World War II as a gunnery instructor. Preceding him in death were his wife, Claire; grandson, David; 4 brothers, Edwin, Donald, Fred and Robert Buck. Surviving are one son, Eugene (Lori) Buck of Reston, VA; two daughters, Drs. Janet (Dennis) Arnold and Kaye Buck, both of Ionia; six grandchildren, Lys, Lene, Nathaniel, Andrew, Wade, and Molly; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Richard) Linhart of FL; sister-in-law, Dianna Buck of WA. In memory of George's life he would encourage all he knew to enjoy the world around them, and to serve the Lord by being mindful of the needs of others. He was an animal lover. Any donations people are inclined to give should go to the animal care organization of their choosing. A coffee hour to celebrate his life will take place at First Presbyterian Church, Ionia on a date to be determined. A private family memorial will take place in New York State.
