Peabody, passed away at the home of her son-in-law and daughter Dr. and Mrs. Peabody, Monday evening after a long illness where she had made her home for the past 37 years. Emma Smith Gardner, daughter of Daniel and Melissa Gardner, was born April 7, 1854 on a farm on the Lake Shore road, four miles south of the village Skanneateles, N.Y. When seven years, old her parents and family of five children moved to Urbana, Ill. From there they moved to Michigan, settling on a farm near Alma, later moving to a farm near Sparta, where she attended a select school. On April 30, 1872 she was married to Cary E. Buck. They settled on a farm in Sparta township, later moving to Alpine township, where they resided until the death of her husband on October 14, 1894. She is survived by her daughter Neva and one grandson Lt. Cary S. Peabody, M.D. at Ft. Knox, Ky. The funeral services will be held from the Wortley & Baine chapel Friday afternoon at 2 with burial in Greenwood cemetery at Sparta.
