Mr. Buckingham was born December 24, 1922 in Brownsville, PA, to Dr. Guy Emerson and Luna Guesman Buckingham. His early years were spent in Meadville, PA, where he graduated with honors from Allegheny College with a master’s degree in industrial psychology. Mr. Buckingham volunteered in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and served four years in the Pacific Theater as a pilot, finishing a a second lieutenant, of C-47s and B-25s. He received recognition and became a proud member of the Caterpillar Club after being forced to abandon planes twice in the Pacific Ocean. As many other GIs, he left military life for civilian employment. Mr. Buckingham was employed by C&P Telephone and advanced to management level, in what was to become Bell Atlantic, where he retired after 35 years of service. He enjoyed his large family, sports (was a longtime Steelers fan), studying World War II and was an avid gardener. Mr. Buckingham is survived by his wife of 57 years, Polly Buckingham; children, Michael and Laura, Amy, Guy and Jill, Sean and Diane, Kristin; niece, Julia and Tim Marshal; grand-niece, Evie; beloved sister, Betty and Joseph Pose Pond, and her children, Susan and John; grandchildren, Aaron, Neal, Caleb; and cousins, James and Beverly Renn, Jean Morton, Sally and Jerry Phillips.
