Greenville Daily News, Jan 2002

Greenville - Buerl L. Guernsey, 69, of Lincoln Lake Avenue, Greenville, died
Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at his home.  He was born in Ionia County on Feb. 29,
1932, the son of Hubur and Margaret Terry Guernsey.

Buerl retired in 1990 from Smith Industries with 36½ years of service.  He was a
veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Allegan,
and formerly a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenville.   He was a 40-year
member of the Michigan Archaeological Society, Coffinberry Chapter, 40-year
honorary member of Grand Valley American Indian Lodge and was a Native American
lore expert.  He recently donated more than 30,000 artifacts to Grand Valley
State University.

Buerl married Norma J. Johnson on April 2, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church,
Greenville.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, of Greenville; their children, Cindy DiPersio
of Lafayette, Colo., Roger and Lisa Guernsey, Cathy and Bill Horton, all of
Greenville, Brett and Jill Guernsey of Green Bay, Wis.; eight grandchildren; a
brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Anna Guernsey of Ionia; and a sister,
Yvonne Fabian of Rosebush.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with the
Rev. Peggy J. Adams officiating.  Burial is in Rest Haven Memory Gardens,
Belding.  Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  In lieu of
flowers the family suggest memorials be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church
Building Fund or the A.L.S. Association, West Michigan Chapter.
