January 22, 2025 William Keith "Bill" Bulling, age 83, of Lake Odessa,MI passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 27, 1941, in Ionia,MI to Keith and Bernice Bulling.Bill was the devoted husband of 48 years to Helen Bulling, and loving father to their children.He enriched the lives of everyone who knew him. Bill was first married to Jan Gearhart for 16 years and together they lovingly raised Sandra,Karen, and David. In 1976 he married Helen Hartzler, expanding his family to include Nikki, Craig, and Andrew.Together Bill and Helen built a life rooted in love, family, and service. A man of exceptional character, Bill embodied honesty, integrity and hard work. Growing up on a farm just six miles north of Lake Odessa, he developed a deep appreciation for life's simple yet profound lessons; the value of family, how to build and fix anything, and the importance of solving problems with kindness and humility. Bill was a gentle, wise, and soft-spoken man who never uttered an unkind word and approached everything he did with a spirit of excellence. Bill began his career as an apprentice carpenter, eventually co-founding Bulling and Cobb Construction with his friend Larry Cobb. hen their partnership amicably ended, Bill continued as the owner of Bulling Construction until his retirement in 2002. Over the course of his career, he built more than 116 beautiful, high- quality homes and developed subdivisions across the Lakewood and surrounding areas. After retirement, Bill embraced the opportunity to travel with Helen and spend time with family and friends which included his weekly golf group. He found great joy in working on projects in his wood shop, creating cherished pieces for his children and grandchildren. He was also o passionate about hunting on the family farm and enjoying time at the cabin in Colorado. A respected community member, Bill served for 27 years on the Union Bank board of directors, including a tenure as chairman from 2002 to 2009. In his younger years, he was actively involved in the Michigan Builders Association, Jaycees, and Lions Club. Bill was the Grand Marshall for the Lake Odessa Parade in 2014. Bill is survived by his beloved wife,Helen; his children, Sandra(Brian) Rayner, Karen(Steve)Pleyte, David(Nancy)Bulling,Nikki(Dan)Thomas,Craig Hartzler and Andrew (Julie) Hartzler; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Joan(Tom)Hanson, Susan Lake, Marj (Wayne)Montgomery, Barb(Denny)Frost. He was preceded in death by his parents Keith and Bernice Bulling. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hughe House,7766 Velte Road,Lake Odessa, on Sunday afternoon, February 2, 2025, from 2 to 5 p.m.,with a moment for family to share memories starting at 3 p.m. Bill's life was a testament to love, dedication, and service.His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were priviledged to know him.
