December 31, 2022 Charles L. Bumgardner Charles L.Bumgardner, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 26, 2022. Charles was born on December 17, 1929 in Alvarado, VA. Charles and Janice were married on May 20, 1950. In 1949 he was sent to the Army in Japan for occupation and policing, then tot he U.S. as a drill instructor for the Korean War. Charles came to Michigan for employment in 1953 and found a small home that the late Harold and Edith Benedict rented him. He returned to Virginia to bring his wife and two small children to begin a new adventure. Charles worked very hard, sometimes working two jobs to make ends meet.In 1966 he was able to purchase the Leonard/Total gas station in Sunfield where he worked from 1966 until 1992. While in the gas station business he made many freinds in the local community of Sunfield. Charles and Janice loved the Lord and sharing their faith with everyone they touched. He retired in 1992 and moved to Vermontville enjoying many hobbies with his wife and children living close by. Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janice; daughters, Cathy and Nancy mother, Annie and grandson, Timothy. He is survived by his son, Bobby(Kathy) Bumgardner; daughter, Ginny (David) Chase; grandchildren, Cheryl Versalle, Denise (Ted) Kurdziel, Anne Trask; great- grandchildren, Christopher Knoll and Cameron Trask. He had 13 step siblings and was very close to his brother, Bud Parks, and sisters, Edith and Retha, and brothers-in-law, Clay and Floyd Nelson. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to Wounded Warriors Project. woundedwarriorsproject.org; Honor and memorial donation. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec.30, 2022 with a luncheon immediately following, at Vermontville Bible Church. Interment followed the funeral luncheon at Sunfield Cemetery in Mulliken, MI. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Daniels Funeral Home-Nashville, conveniently located at 9200 East M-79 Highway in Nashville, MI.
