Bunce aged 29 years, local World war veteran who died Sunday in Ford hospital, Detroit. The body was shipped to the Wicks-Fales Co. of this city and taken to the home of the young man’s parents on the north side. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church, Revs. Ellis and Osborne officiating. The members of Hugo Fales Post, American Legion, attended in a body. An obituary of the young man prepared for the funeral, reads as follows: William Henry Bunce was born near Vestaburg, Michigan, June 25th, 1894 and departed this life June 2nd, 1923, at the age of 28 years, 11 months and eight days. He came to Belding with his parents when a small boy, and resided in or near Belding until the fall of 1916 when he went to Montana to be with his sister. While there, in the summer of 1917 he was called to serve in the World war from which he was discharged in November, 1919. He arrived in France in December of 1917 and was placed in that famous first division which covered itself with so much glory in the dark days of the spring of 1918. He participated in the Cantigny offensive where he was cited for his bravery by his commanding general, and again in the offensive at Soissins where he again was cited for bravery, from there they were sent to participate in that first great American victory at St. Mihiel, and then again in the Argonne he was cited the third time for individual heroism. He was united in married to Rena May Owen, March 28th, 1921 and to this union was born a son Orvill William, May 17th, 1922. He was apparently in fair health until about one year ago from which time he has failed rapidly. On November 2nd he entered the government hospital at Maywood, Illinois, remaining there about four months. They were unable to help him so he returned to his family for a short time. On May 7th he went to the Ford hospital, Detroit where he underwent two operations. The second one proving fatal. He leaves, besides a wife and son, a mother, father, brother, six sisters and many relatives. His fine noble character won him many friends by whom he will long be remembered.
