Mrs. Burch was one of the pioneers of this vicinity. Altie C. Burch, daughter of John and Arabel Chipman Frank, was born in Avon Twp., Oakland County, Michigan, November 24, 1824 and died in Lebanon, Clinton County, August 1, 1916, being nearly 92 years of age. The oldest of a family of five sons and five daughters, she grew to womanhood at the parental home. She taught school for several years until her marriage to Loren G. Burch of the same place, October 18, 1849. Two daughters and three sons were born to this union. One daughter Annie died in infancy, the other daughter, Addie, died in 1878 at the age of 22 years. The three sons, Frank L. of Hubbardston, Fred. W. and L. Delos of Detroit, survive her, also one brother, Lucius L. Frank of Rochester, Michigan, the youngest of her father’s family. Mr. and Mrs. Burch resided near Rochester, Michigan until the fall of 1868 when they moved to Lebanon and settled upon the farm upon which she continued to live until her death. The husband and father having died in April 1895. Truly a pioneer! With her father’s family an early Michigan pioneer and with her own family a pioneer of central Michigan. She was a remarkable woman in many ways—active, energetic and in excellent health her entire life. A devoted wife and mother, a firm friend, a strong believer in Christianity, the church and its upbuilding influence. A woman of strong conviction, a teacher of honesty and justice. Of remarkable memory she could recall many important changes in the social and physical conditions of the country and in the development of her native state during the many years of her active life.
