Dropped Dead in Meat Market
George Burch Was on His Way Home from Pottery and Reached W.G. Longes
Death Was Probably Due to Heart Failure and Exhaustion Followed Walk Through
Snow Drifts – Was Engineer at the Pottery.

Without question the blizzard can be credited with one death, that of George
Burch who dropped dead in Longe’s meat market last night about six o’clock.  Mr.
Burch came into the market a few minutes before and stood waiting for his turn.
 At last the others who were ahead of him had been waited on and Mr. Longe
turned to Mr. Burch and stated that he was next.

With his head bent as though looking at the meat, Mr. Burch started for the
counter.  He walked straight into it, staggered to the side and backward and
fell upon his back dying almost instantly.  Heart failure brought on by his
day’s work and the hard struggle through the snow drifts from the pottery where
he was engineer to the market was the probable cause of his death.

He had seemed to be in good health during the afternoon while at his work and
last night when time came to quit he remarked that he wished he was home.  Then
he started out into the storm succeeding in getting only as far as the market. 
Mr. Burch lives on East Lafayette street in the Fourth ward.

Mr. Burch was 52 years of age.  The funeral will be attended from Bradley’s
undertaking rooms Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock.  Seymour Bills of the Salvation
army will officiate.  Interment in Highland park cemetery.
