                      Death Summons Come To World War I Vet

Death came to Elton Burdick, 56 year-old veteran of World War I and a resident 
of this city for quite a number of years, at the Belding City Hospital, Friday 
morning at about 1:30 o'clock. Mr.Burdick had been a patient at the hospital for 
two weeks and had submitted to two major operations which had been performed in 
an effort to save  his life.

Mr. Burdick was born at Chippewa Lake in Mecosta County, on April 9, 1891. He 
lived for some time at Flint and came to Belding about 12 years ago. He had been 
employed in the Belding Foundry Company Plant and later on at the Gibson Factory 
in this city. He was married to miss Joyce Evans, at Big Rapids, on July 3,1919, 
who, with a son, Bernard Whitman, of Flint, a daughter,Mrs.Helen McNeil, also of 
Flint, and five grandchildren survive. Other survivors are his mother, Mr.Minnie 
Phenix, of this city and three half-brothers, John Phenix of Grand Rapids and 
James and Granville Phenix of this city.

Mr.Burdick was a veteran of the First World War and was a member of Hugo Fales 
Post 203, American Legion, whose officers and members turned out for the 
Military funeral services which were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, 
from the Fitzjohn Funeral Home, with Rev.H.S.Ellis as the officiating clergyman 
and burial was in River Ridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Legion Commander Glen F.Rial, Martin J.Engemann, Edwin T.Waite, 
George R. Wortman, L.Glenn Lambertson and John Dehn.
