Ionia Sentinel Standard, 6 Dec 1940

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 4, at 2 p.m. from the Myers 
funeral home for Nicola Burdy, 43, who died at the University hospital in Ann 
Arbor Monday.  He was taken to the hospital two weeks ago.  Since July 14 of 
this year he had been unable to work because of his health.

He came to the United States from Bari, Italy, when he was 12 years old and 
they moved to Ionia when he was about 18 years old.  On March 3, 1917, he was 
married to Lois A. Guernsey.  He became a citizen of the United States shortly 
after their marriage.

Besides the wife and two sons, Lyle and Dale, a cousin, Dan Balice of Ionia 
also survives.

Rev. Arthur C. DeVries of the Evangelical church officiated at the services and 
bearers were Dennis Guernsey, Frank Lance, Ernest Teall, Charles Jay, Roy Ward 
and Lloyd Guernsey.
