Ruth A. Burgess, age 80, of Greenville, died Sunday, September 5, 2004 at 
Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus.  She was born in Edmore on February 29, 
1924, the daughter of Clayton and Viola Riegel Macklin.  She was married July 
6, 1946 in Greenville to Donald G. Burgess and was a graduate of Edmore High 
School in 1941, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Ray I. Booth Post 
101 and active with many volunteer duties at the Legion; also a member of the 
VFW Auxiliary Lester J. Sitts Post in Sheridan, a former Den Mother with the 
Cub Scouts and active with the PTA at Baldwin Heights School. Her happiest 
days were fishing with her husband Don especially for walleye and she was an 
adventuress while on a fly-in to remote places in Canada to fish.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Don, of Greenville; their sons and 
wives, David and Barbara Burgess of Ionia and James and Sandra Burgess of 
Grand Rapids; her grandchildren; Jennifer J. and Chad Jorstad of Wyoming, 
Jennifer S. and Doug Rose of Hudsonville and Jason Burgess of Mountain View, 
California, her great-grandchildren, Erika, Erinne and William Jorstad and 
Alyceia Rose, her brother, Jerry and Joan Macklin; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday from Hurst Funeral Home, 1801 W. 
Washington Street, Greenville, with Rev. Dr. Harry R. Johnson officiating.  
Burial will be in Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding.  Visitation is 3 p.m. to 
5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.  Memorial contributions may be given to 
the American Kidney Foundation.
