The Portland Observer, Wednesday, March 28, 1900


Eugene R. Burgess, who came from Wisconsin a couple of years ago, died very 
suddenly of heart trouble at his home (the old Reed farm) near Maple Corners 
on Sunday afternoon last, aged 59 years.  He leaves a wife and daughter at 
home, another daughter being the wife of Scott Williams, the well-known 
missionary.  Up to within an hour of his death Mr. Burgess was enjoying his 
usual health.  

Funeral services will be conducted from the house at 10 o’clock Wednesday by 
Lyons Masons.
