N. Burhans Claimed By Death. Complication of Diseases Proves Fatal to Well Known Portland Woman. After suffering for more than four years from a complication of diseases that baffled physicians, Mrs. Fred N. Burhans passed away at 10:00 o’clock Wednesday morning at her home on Bridge street. Her condition had been critical for several days, and on Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. George W. Burhans, of Lansing, were summoned to her bedside. Mrs. Nora Hixson, of Lockport, N. Y., a daughter of Mrs. Burhans, was with her when she passed away, having cared for her mother continuously for the past four years. Mrs. Burhans was born at Elvria, O., Nov. 22, 1849, being in her 65th year at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Mary Urle. In 1867 she was married to Thaddeus Dillon of Ann Arbor, the ceremony being performed here in Portland. One child, Mrs. Hixson, of Lockport, survives the marriage. Mr. Dillon died of lockjaw about 18 years ago and is buried in Portland cemetery. Nine years ago deceased was married to Fred N. Burhans, who survives her. About four years ago Mrs. Burhans’ health failed, and for several months she made her home with her daughter at Lockport, returning to Portland last fall. The complicated nature of her illness puzzled physicians, and the exact cause of her death will probably never be known. She was an active member of the Methodist church and Women’s Relief Corps, and will be greatly missed in social and religious circles. Rev. Wm. W. Slee, of the M. E. church, will officiate at the funeral services to be held at the late home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock. Interment in Portland cemetery.
