Mr. Burk has been a patient sufferer for about one year and a half with a complication of diseases, with the last three weeks of his life wholly confined to his bed. He was born in Italy Hollow, Yates Co., N.Y., September 3, 1844. August 8, 1964 he was called to serve his country and was faithful to the end of the war. Soon after he came to Michigan and January 28, 1869 was united in holy matrimony with Mrs. Julia M. Proctor of North Shade, Gratiot County. To them was born one daughter, Mrs. Cora E. Strickling. About five years later they moved to Hubbardston where they have since made their home. In the earlier days he was engaged in the meat market firm known as Graham, Clark & Burk. A few years later he and Mr. Graham bought out Mr. Clark and then the firm was known as Graham & Burk, later Mr. Graham sold his interests to Mr. Burk and in March 1892 he sold to George McVeigh. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Cora E. Strickling, one granddaughter, Mrs. Kathryn Chick, besides a host of friends and relatives. The funeral services were held at the home of his daughter Wednesday, April 14, Rev. W. S. Phillips officiating. The floral gifts were many and beautiful. The pall bearers were: W. P. Dodson, Dr. H. B. Ferguson, A. W. Gardner, John Morse, A. H. Lattimer and Fred Chick. He was laid to rest in the family lot in West Side cemetery to await the triumphant call at the resurrection morning.
