The body lay in the large reception room on the second floor amid a wealth of beautiful flowers. The sermon was given by Rev. G. J. Start of the Congregational church, he taking for his text the twenty-third psalm. Rev. Start gave a splendid personal tribute to the deceased and spoke of her generosity and love for the people whom she was ever able to lend a helping hand in their hour of need. He also emphasized the necessity of being prepared for the inevitable which must come to all. A quartette composed of George F. Kart, L. T. Gilson, M. G. Morgan and S. W. Dann accompanied by Morley Hough furnished the music. The pall bearers were David Smith, Byron Goodsell, Dan Skellenger, Ed Shellhorn, George Kart and Louis Krieger. The body was taken to Lansing for burial by Wortley & Baine undertakers. The stores of main street were closed during the service out of deference to the deceased who had been a prominent business woman of the village for more than thirty years. Mrs. Burke was 69 years of age. Many friends were present from Detroit, Lansing, Ionia and nearer vicinities, aside from the local people.
