John Rivington Burke, aged 25 years, and known familiarly to his numerous Ionia friends as “Rivie” Burke, died at Peoria, Ill., Sunday morning at a Peoria hospital after suffering from a sudden attack of heart trouble. He had suffered with heart trouble more or less for the past eight years, enduring a condition which is said to have been made worse by his 18 months’ service in the army a few years ago. He suffered a severe attack about a year ago while in Ionia, at which time his life was in danger, but recovered. He went to Peoria September 10 last, where he entered Bradley institute. “Rivie” Burke was born in Ionia February 8, 1897, and has lived practically all of his life in Ionia, where he attended school and graduated from the SS. Peter and Paul academy. He entered the army in 1819 [Transcriber's Note: This is the date printed in the obituary.], serving in the artillery at Camp Jackson, S.C., remaining in service for 18 months. He leaves his father, Edward Burke, of Ionia; three sisters, Mrs. A.F. Jannausch, Jane, and Mary, and two brothers, William and Jerry Burke. The funeral services will be held from SS. Peter and Paul church Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock and interment will be in the family lot at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
