Burke, 85, of Orleans, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to join the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001. Jim was born the son of George and Mary (LeComte) Burke in Pembine, Wis., on March 28, 1916. His family moved to California when he was three-years-old. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army as an M.P. He retired from the San Jose Water Co. and he was active in California local rodeos and wrestling. He moved to the Ionia area in 1983. Surviving are his wife, Margaret (Flanders) Burke; three sons, Jerry (Aileen) of California, Dave (Rene) of Orleans and Jim (Sue) of Diamondale; three daughters, Joyce (Joe) Carter and Carol Campbell both of California; Mary “Peg” (Mike) Ring of Orleans; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Louis Adams of California; three brothers, Monte (Arlene) Burke, Gordon (Sarah) Burke and L. D. (Frances) McIntyre all of California. Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the Rich St. Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday from the Palo United Methodist Church with Pastor Larry Nalett officiating. Interment in Palo Cemetery.
