His death has been expected for the past week by his many friends and family, who were around his bed when the summons came. He was born in County Limerick, Ireland, on Nov. 8, 1835. He came to this country at the age of 16. He was the oldest of seven children, two of whom are still living in Ireland. He came to Michigan in 1853, at which time this county was a wilderness. More than 59 years ago he moved to Muir, where he lived an honorable and esteemed citizen. He moved to Ionia 19 years ago. Mr. Burke's death will be a source of great sorrow to many of his old friends, for old friendship was very dear to him. He married Miss Mary Laffin in Elmira, N.Y., and leaves to mourn his loss sic children, besides his widow; Ms. W. F. Soule, Miss Anna and Edward of this city, W. H. Burke of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Richard O'Neil of Grand Rapids and J. B. Burke of Fallon, Nevada. He was in the employ of the Grand Trunk in Michigan when the first railroad was put through Ionia county, and remains with the road until five years ago, when he was put on the pension list for faithful service. Mr. and Ms. Burke celebrated their golden wedding anniversary 8 years ago. He was kind and loving, and a fond father. His funeral will be held from the Church of SS. Peter and Paul at 9 a.m. Friday, Friday, Jan. 10, 1913 Ionia Standard - January 10, 1913 William burke, a pioneer resident, died Tuesday evening at the home on Adams street, at the age of 77. Funeral at SS. Peter & Paul's church on Friday morning at 9 o'clock. Deceased was the father of Ed. Burke, Mrs. W. F. Soule and Hanna Burke of this city, and Mrs. Richard O'Neil of Grand Rapids.
