Ms. Burman was born June 30, 1917. She was a graduate of Portland High School class of 1935 and Albion College Class of 1939. Until her retirement in 1981 she taught home economics in Martin, Sparta, and Dowagiac. Muriel was a past member of several Portland ladies organizations. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Portland and a retired member of the Michigan Education Association. During summer vacations she traveled to many foreign countries as well as many locations within the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Mabel Burman; sister Kathleen Jones; brother-in-law Guy Jones; and nephew Keith Jones. She is survived by cousins Charles (Mary) Dorin of Belleville, Gerald Smith of Quincy and Ervin Morse of Lansing. Funeral services were held on Nov. 3, at the First Congregational Church of Portland with the Rev. Marilyn Danielson officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. Those desiring may make contributions to the First Congregational Church of Portland or to Hospice of Lansing in memory of Muriel Burman.
