Owen C. “Chuck” Burns, 77, of Brooklyn passed away Aug. 8, 2001 in Adrian.  He 
was born on Nov. 19, 1923 in Perrinton, to Emma (Morrow) and James William 
Burns.  Church married Loraine Smith and she survives.

He was a life member of the Elks and a member of the American Legion in Ionia, 
life member of the Moose Lodge in Jackson, member of the Irish Hills Eagles 
and past president of Michigan United Conservation Club.  Chuck graduated and 
was a past member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia.  Mr. 
Burns was employed by Michigan State Industries, Michigan Department of 
Corrections as the operation manager in Jackson for almost 30 years.

Besides his wife, Chuck is survived by six sons, Owen Charles Burns Jr. of Mt. 
Pleasant, James (Debbie) of Palo, Brad (Sandy) of Caledonia, Laird (Elizabeth) 
of Grand Rapids, Kevin of Kent City and Kelly of Mason; two daughters, Mary 
(Ted) Klein and Carol (Fred) Kuhtz both of Ionia; one brother Lee (Tillie) 
Burns of Los Angeles, Calif.; one stepson, Dick (Anita) Wilkins of Minnesota; 
one stepdaughter, Helen (Bill) Sweep of Hastings; 16 grandchildren; and two 
great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one son, Daniel; one 
daughter, Virginia; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, 
Virginia.

Cremation has taken place.  Arrangements entrusted to Jenter and Braun Funeral 
Home, Brooklyn Chapel.  Memorials may be made to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic 
Church in Ionia, 434 High St., Ionia, 48846.
