She was born on April 15, 1925 in Belding, the daughter of Ralph and Pearl (Elmendorf) Orr both of whom preceded her in death. She attended Belding area schools and found employment immediately following high school. She worked for several area employers including Federal Mogul and Gibson/Electrolux. One of her favorite jobs was when she worked for Jolly Kids as a Pattern Cutter. She married Jack Irving Burns on Jan. 13, 1946 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1989. Dorothy enjoyed many pasttimes including knitting, crocheting, bird watching, fishing, playing Bingo and competing in euchre tournaments whenever she could. Dorothy leaves to chresh her memory, children, Beverly Jean Demorest of Greenville, Richard Lee (Barbara) Burns of Rockford, Barbara Ann (Eldon) Lutz of Cedar Springs and Carolyn Ilene (Justin) Anderson of Belding; 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; a sister Marian Orr of Greenville; a sister-in-law JoAnn Orr of Greenville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by siblings Margaret Maybore, Charles Orr and William Orr. Services will take place on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at Verdun Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Bridge Street, Belding, with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitaiton will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. and the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial and committal services will take place when weather permits at River Ridge Cemetery in Belding.
