Burns, in company with two others, had been out on a hunting expedition and while returning were overtaken by the storm. When the little party discovered that escape would be impossible, they stacked their guns in the snow, laid down beside them and died. In a few hours the storm passed by; the guns were discovered, and three frozen corpses presented to view. Burns is well known in Portland, and was a well-to-do young man.
