He had resided in Ionia since 1915 and for many years at 431 State street. He had been in ill health for the past several years. He was born October 25, 1883 at Lyons the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Burns. He moved to Palo when an infant and attended school there. Coming to Ionia in 1915 he was married a year later to Shelta Hoover. He followed his trade as a tinsmith during his adult lifehood and was employed by Pere Marquette railroad, Hayes Body Co., Ionia Hardware Co. and the G.L. Pierce Construction Co. He also operated his own tinsmith business and in later years a trucking service in Ionia. Surviving are four daughters, Helen Burns of Ionia, Mrs. Rebecca Cook of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Ruth Chancey of Chicago, and Mrs. Janette Brightsman of Stanton; five sons, Gerald of Carson City, Robert of Novi, Gordon and Donald of Ionia, and Richard of Chicago; three sisters, Mrs. Riba Wilson of Illinois, Mrs. Nellie Burbank of Hershey, and Mrs. Elizabeth O’Neil of San Diego, Calif., and 18 grandchildren. Funeral service will be Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from Phelps funeral chapel with the Rev. Wilfred Sawyer of the First Presbyterian church, officiating.
