Born in Ionia on May 23,1948 to the late Jack & Dorothy(Orr) Burns. Attended Belding area Schools, where he played football, gold & his favorite sport, Baseball. Was Drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served for 3 years. Attended Michigan State University where he met Barbara Bauer whom he married on December 27th 1969. Richard earned an associated degree in mechanical drafting at Ferris State University after his honorable discharge from the Army. He worked at Magnavox in Ft.Wayne,Indiana, before returning to Michigan in 1973 to begin work at Gibsons/Frigidaire/Electrolux, where he worked for 32 years advancing from drafting to procurement leadership. In 1991 he earned a Bachelor's degree from Grand Valley State University. He joined Marvel before retiring in 2010. Richard enjoyed golfing with friends, camping with family & traveling with Barbara. He cherished being a grandfather to Claire, Conner, Caitlin, Caroline, Charlotte, Clark, Harper & Kennedy, who loved him & his blueberry pancakes. Survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Burns, his sons, Brian (Emily) & Kevin(Paige); sister, Carolyn (Justin) Anderson of Belding; eight grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends & former colleagues. Preceded in death by his parents, Jack & Dorothy Burns; sisters, Beverly Demorest & Barbara Lutz; brothers-in-law, Roger & Thomas Bauer; & sister-in-law, Mary Achtabowski. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church (4865 11 mile N.E. Rockford,MI 49341) on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 11a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Rev. Dominic Couturier will serve as celebrant. An evening of visitation will be held at Hurst Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 from 6 to 8 p.m. Committal services will take place at St.Charles Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Condolences may be shared at www.hurstfh.com.
