James Burns aged 57 of Palo, Mich. passed away August 3, 2006. He was born 
September 4, 1948 in Ionia, Mich. the son of Owen Charles and Mae (Braman) 
Burns Sr.

He was employed by The AFLAC Insurance Company for 26 years as a general 
agent. He married Debra Cobb November 4, 1972 in Palo. He worked at the Ionia 
Reformatory several years and for the last 8 years rescued cats. He enjoyed 
hunting, fishing, golf and his family.

James is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Debra Burns of Palo; children 
Kari and Wes Sakshaug of Kentwood, Justin and Meghan Burns of Almont, Dustin 
and Jennifer Burns of Florida and Ryan Minikey of Montcalm; Step-mother 
Loraine Burns of Brooklyn and Step dad Don Taylor of Florida. adopted sons 
James Martin of Arizona and Jason and Rachell Martin of Edmore; sisters and 
brothers Mary and Ted Klein of Ionia, Carol and Fred Kuhtz of Ionia, Wendy and 
Marty Dowsett of Palo, Brad and Sandy Burns of Kentwood, Laird and Liz Burns 
of Kentwood , Kevin and Sue Burns of Kent City, and Kelly Burns of Mason. 
Grandchildren; Cole, Grady and Mackenzie Sakshaug.  He was preceded in death 
by 2 brothers and 1 sister: Daniel, Chuck Jr, and Virginia Burns.

Memorial services will be held at Palo United Methodist Church Sunday, August 
6, 2006 at 4 p.m. with Rev. Larry Nalett officiating. The family will receive 
friends and relatives at the church Saturday 4-7 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 p.m. 
prior to the service. Anyone wishing to make memorial contributions may do so 
to Palo United Methodist Church , The American Cancer Society or the Local Cat 
Rescue.
