Burns of Saranac, who recently went to Battle Creek to work on the M. & O. railroad was killed by a Chicago and Grand Trunk train Tuesday morning. He was walking on the track with some other men, and for some reason unknown, remained upon the track until the engine was less than three feet from him, when in attempting to get off he slipped, and his right leg caught in the forward truck of the engine, mangling it from the foot up to his body. He was picked up and conveyed to the station, and medical aid summoned, who upon examination, decided that the limb must be amputated. He was removed to the house of his uncle, but owing to his weak condition amputation was not performed. He died at 9:30, two hours and a half after the accident. His remains were brought home for burial.
