Death, when it comes spreads its gloom over communities like ours, but when he passes the old and decrepit or the child and with stern partiality poises its wings over one in the full strength of manhood, its pall of gloom is greater. The deceased, Charles Burt, was 29 years and 11 months of age and leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss. Mr. Burt was a respected citizen and an honored member of the Lake Odessa lodge, No. 429, I.O.O.F. The I.O.O.F. lodge has been instituted here nearly two years and this death was the first one that has occurred in their ranks. The Odd Fellows of the Lake Odessa lodge to the number of about 25 drove to the home of the deceased, where they met a number of Freeport Odd Fellows, and at 3 o’clock a funeral service was conducted, Rev. J.W. Arney of Lake Odessa preaching the sermon. The floral offerings were very handsome. At the cemetery, where about 250 people congregated, the usual rites of the order were performed, and all that was mortal of him who so recently had been with us here were laid away to their last long rest to “Sleep the sleep that knows no waking, morn of toil, nor night of working.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/mi/ionia/obits/b/burt16688nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/mifiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
