Burt, 81, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at his home in Greenville with his family at his side and with the assistance of Heartland Hospice. Born in Grand Rapids on Aug. 25, 1926 to Norma Jean and Erwin Burt, he later moved to Belding to graduate from Belding High School. He served in the Air force for two years thereafter, followed by a two year study at Davenport College in Grand Rapids. He was married to Ruth (Peggy) Perrien on Feb. 17, 1951 in Ionia. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage. His family will greatly miss this loving husband, father and grandfather. Tom was a member of First Congregational Church in Belding where he served many years as head usher. Known for his quick wit and gentle humor, he had a deep love for his friends, his church and his church family. He worked for several years at Gibson Refrigerator and later retired after 30 years as Manager of the Scheduling Department with Extruded Metals in Belding. He served on the Belding Chamber of Commerce, Board of Appeals, Belding Savings and Loan Board of Directors, Commander of the Belding American Legion, Post 203, for two years and as a member of the Legion for over 60 years. He marched with the veterans in the Memorial Day and Labor Day parades in Belding for several decades. Tom enjoyed bowling, attending the National ABC's with his team. He also enjoyed golf and the 14 winters spent in Zephyrhills, Fla., but his greatest passion was dancing with his wife during their years in the Belding Dance Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin Burt and Norma and Ed Hackett, and infant son, Russell James Burt. Survived by his four daughters, Diane and husband Dave Christensen, Tammy Lee and her partner Mark Poff, Jan and her husband, Dan Lyndrup - all of Greenville, Mich. and Jill Greenop and her fiancé, Patrick Magin of Ada. Grandchildren are Leigha Christensen of Kalamazoo, Tracy and her husband Mike Clark of Grand Rapids, Casey and Alix Lyndrup, Collin Greenop and Ashley Milhizer. Great-grandchildren are Elijah and Madison Harris of Kalamazoo. He is also survived by his nephew Tom and wife Sandy Treynor, of Belding, and several great-nieces and nephews. His beloved canine companion, Max, will miss him as well. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Congregational Church, Belding with Pastor Byron K. Davey officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at River Ridge Cemetery, Belding. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Donations may be made to the First Congregational Church at 301 W. Washington, Belding, MI 48809 and or Heartland Hospice at 3230 Eagle Park Dr, Ste. 200, Grand Rapids, MI 49525.
